Morgan
Hi Alice, I wanted to give you an update on Morgan. He went for another checkup yesterday. Vet is very pleased that heart murmur is very slight. He’s 20.5 lbs now.

First, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!! It was absolutely PERFECT! I could not have asked for a better response from him on anything- he took correction well, was not at all phased by the MASSIVE machine plowing down the aisle, and whomever his handler is needs a raise as he handled him perfectly as well! Kept great energy on the leash, ignored what needed to be ignored, redirected effectively- I could go on and on, but seriously such a great clip!! Would you mind if I posted it on my GR fb page?? There are so many things I would like point out that I think could be so helpful for loads of people! I keep meaning to make more training videos like this, but 90% of the time I am out working with one of my pack, it is me, myself and I and I am focussed on the dog so I just have not made the time yet.
I am also so very sorry that I have just not had enough hours in the day to stay caught up in my correspondence 🙁 I appreciate your patience and grace very much and did indeed connect with Kylie and she seems awesome!! I am very grateful for the referral <3
When you get a chance, I would highly recommend looking up dog fear periods. I am attaching a link from AKC’s website as I think it is easy to read and pretty concise, but there is loads more info out there if you want. It is one of the many pages I have wanted to get added to my website- again, not enough hours in the day :/ Need to clone me lol
Puppy Fear Periods: Why Is My Puppy Suddenly Afraid? – American Kennel Club
How we respond when they are going through their fear period is CRITICAL to their development and that is one of the things that the handler in your video nailed! They get their cues from us. And “oh no poor baby…” and other similar responses give credit to their fear and encourage them that it is correct to feel that way and to be intimidated of whatever it was that was making them nervous. Conversely, remaining calm, redirecting and acting like we have no idea what they are bothered by shows them, by our example, that it is unnecessary to have fear of that particular situation. Again, handler did a great job of, “hey, look at this carpet thing…” and then, “ok, that machine is kinda interesting…” I have taught my kids from the time they were old enough to hold a leash that their energy travels down that leash. If you know a certain situation brings your dog anxiety, it will make you anxious approaching that situation and then that anxiety will be felt by your dog and reinforce his/her belief that this is something we are not ok with. Conversely, balanced and calm also travel down that leash and can dispell uncertainty in a young mind that just soaks it all up like a sponge.
Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do for you and keep up the phenomenal work! Super stoked about the heart murmur <3 And thank you also for the photos! I will get those uploaded to his litter page in just a bit along with his fantastic video!! <3
